Duane Brown's wife Devon Brown is a fairly well-known voice in the hip hop community. She's a host of 93.7 The Beat in Los Angeles and had worked as a talk show host on MTV for a show called Hip Hop POV. She also worked on Sirius XM's Shade 45 in New York. She's guided herself through a successful career on the radio and television, and she was recently on a show called "Say Yes to The Dress" with her husband now husband Duane. They were married in the summer of 2012.
So on this show they were on, Duane Brown's wife Devon Brown appeared at the wedding dress store with Duane and articulated the overall look and vibe she was going for in a dress. She said she would feel silly spending a crazy amount on a wedding dress, but then she said her budget for the dress was $7000! Duane picked up the tab, and Duane was called "the capo of cleavage" by Devon's friend, who said that he wanted to see his bride in something classy and decent. The translation here is that Duane didn't want Devon falling out of the dress. The show's really not my thing, but I can see the appeal for women who are in love with marriages and getting married and everything that entails. The first dress Devon tried on was a wacky "feather dress" that had the goose-down feathers coming off of it. Duane said it was a no-go as soon as he saw it; "there was a bunch of cleavage up top." Her friend said "It literally looked like a muppet was skinned alive to make that dress." I did not disagree with the statements.
When Duane speaks, you get the impression he's very level-headed. I think Devon (who is called Devi for short) is also pretty level-headed, but she is far more charismatic and flashy, playing well into her occupation as a radio personality. You gotta' remember how hard it is to keep people interested on the radio, and you've got to be interesting and keep people engaged all the time. On her biography page on her website, it says Devi has conducted interviews with Kanye West, Quincy Jones, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, and Common. So I guess she can hold a conversation too, though I've never heard any of the interviews and I feel like they're probably fairly standard fare. But hey-- not gonna' take anything away from Devi Dev. She's done a good job making herself into a radio personality.
