Having just been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Adam’s come into national focus as the man who would decide the fate of Donald Sterling. This SI quote sticks out to me: ‘It is one thing to have said what I said and another to execute it-- to move the NBA through this chapter to a better place. I feel that obligation. I feel the weight of it on my shoulders.’ It signals that he’s a guy who gets stuff done. The issue here is distancing the NBA from a toxic situation and coming out clean, without compromise. It’s a tough spot to be in because it’s not like the Sterlings want to just give up their ownership. Silver made it clear that there would be no extensions for Sterling, and that means no compromise.
So what’s the story with Maggie Grise? So far she’s a mystery. There are almost no pictures of her to be found online. I imagine Silver’s secretary set her up with the gig to redesign his apartment, he came home when she was installing a large light fixture, and he slipped her his card. It read: “Adam Silver, NBA Commish.” Hard to say no to that, ladies, very tough
indeed. The two were photographed at a dinner party hosted by the owners of the New Orleans Pelicans during the All-Star break. Actual roasted pelicans were served as the entree. How about that, bird lovers? No, it was just boring chicken.
