Jay Gruden's wife Sherry Gruden is now a proud grandmother. Her son recently had a child, and she's shown him off on her facebook account. Her husband Jay became the Washington Redskins head coach earlier this year, so the two have toured the nation's capital with their sons and are settling into life in DC.
Gruden's wife Sherry is something of a firecracker, having worked as a real estate agent and buyers specialist at Coldwell Banker and some place called Matt Davies Real Estate Specialist for over a dozen years. The booming Florida real estate market was where she put her "can do" attitude to work, according to the Matt Davies meet-the-team portion of his website. That is the most classic cheapo website description of a team member ever: 'everyone loves her "can do" attitude.' Sherry must have been smacking her forehead on that one. I'm fairly certain I've never read a good "meet the team" portion of any website ever.
Jay is the brother of Jon Gruden, the youngest head coach ever to win a Super Bowl (at the tender age of 39) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jon is also known as a colorful and somewhat wacky analyst and sports broadcaster. Jay himself managed to woo his wife Sherry via the arena football circuit, where he was once upon a time a first-team all-arena MVP quarterback, whatever that is. I've never seen a game of arena football. I always thought it was the same thing as the short-lived XFL, which I only recently educated myself about. He coached arena football until he was strangely able to jump ship to the Tampa Bay Bucs in 2002, the very same year his brother became head coach. Imagine that! But having jumped ship to the big leagues, Jay was finally able to cash in all of his coaching experience to offensive coordinator at the Bengals and finally head honcho at the Redskins.
