As his full-time caddy since 2012, Patrick Reed's wife Justine Reed helped her husband become a rising star on the PGA Tour. But to the surprise of many, Justine Reed recently announced her temporary resignation. Pregnant with a baby on the way this May, "Team Reed" decided Justine Reed will now support her husband from the other side of the ropes. It hasn't been easy for the Houston Texas native to watch from the sidelines. But the couple made the transition easier on both of them by keeping her replacement in the family.
Justine's brother, Kessler Karain, played a fair amount of golf as a high school junior until he went off to the University of Texas-San Antonio and got a job upon graduation in medical sales. Reed called him late last year and offered him the job as his caddie for the next eight months, and Kessler Karain didn't hesitate to say yes. That's right, eight months; which means that Justine Reed is planning on making a speedy return to caddying. Reed told golfweek.com:
She's thinking about coming back right before the PGA Championship. She wants to come back. She wants to get back at it, and I want her back on the bag. I'm looking forward to it.
In the meantime, Kessler Karain is doing a fine job of filling Justine Reed's shoes. Patrick Reed trained him just like he trained Justine. Apparently, good golfing advice runs in the family, and Kessler is particularly good when it comes to wind and club selection.
But that's not all this couple has kept in the family. Patrick Reed met Justine Reed through her sister, Kris Karain. They were good friends at University High Lab School in Baton Rouge, La., and Patrick was persistent about meeting Kris's older sister. She had a lot going for her as a double major in nursing and health service who worked in the Emergency Room at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. To boot, she helped start the women's golf team at her almamater, Klien Forest High School. It seems their meeting was love at first sight. Shortly thereafter, the happy couple was engaged on Jan. 9, 2012, and married on Dec. 21, 2012.
Hopefully, the couple's careful caddy planning won't upset Patrick Reed's game. With that said, Justine has been heard coaching her husband from the sidelines. And while she cannot be his caddy, she still remains his wife, mother of his daughter-to-be and his full-time nurse!
